Alexander Speer Fund for the Advancement of Arts Administration
Alexander Speer, administrative head of Actors Theatre for 40 years, retired in April 2006. Under his executive leadership, Actors emerged as one of America’s most consistently innovative theatre companies. He led the move from a converted railway station to our current home in 1972, thereby spearheading Main Street revitalization, and oversaw the expansion and addition of the Bingham Theatre in 1994. Sandy’s financial responsibilities included overseeing an annual budget which had grown from $200,000 in 1965 to over $9 million in 2006. Nationally, he served as Treasurer and Executive Committee member of League of Resident Theatres—which represents the interests of 76 non-profit professional theatres across America—and was a member of the National Corporate Theatre Fund Theatre Advisory Council.
To honor Sandy’s extraordinary 40-year career and promote the advancement of world-class administrative and artistic professionals at Actors. Specifically, the fund will enable the theatre to be more competitive in attracting the very best talent to join its ranks.
