Marcos Gabriel Gutiérrez Morales is a Xicanx/Latinx Louisville artist. Primarily a fabric artist and designer, Marcos also dabbles into poetry, dance, and photography. Marcos’ creative work focuses on expressing the lived experience of his beloved Pueblo – the distant Michoacan, Mexico and the close Okolona, Louisville, Kentucky Pueblo. Marcos’ work expresses his lived experience as a first-generation child of immigrant parents and his journey of remembering his ancestral roots, bringing reverence to his parents and people’s journey, radical liberation and self and collective love. Marcos started creating fabric art in 2012 when his mother taught him how to stitch and use her sewing machine. Since then Marcos has come out with two clothing collections, Warriors of the Here & Now (2016) and most recently TRIQUER0 (2020). Currently, Marcos has been focusing his energies on poetry and songwriting. Overall, Marcos’ work aims to “accompany people to the edge” – to break new ground – to name new ground – to claim new ground.
