This three-session, introductory workshop will focus on the fundamentals of dramatic writing. Participants will learn about character development, dialogue and dramatic structure. We will use writing exercises to generate new ideas, explore how to revise and further develop pieces, and stretch your creative muscles! There will also be opportunities to share writing and receive feedback from the instructor and group.

Appropriate for adults of all ages and mature teens.

Participants should bring writing materials to class, paper/pen or laptop/tablet.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Jane B. Jones, Education Director, is in her ninth season at Actors Theatre of Louisville.  From Culpeper, Virginia, Jones has been a theatre educator in Virginia, Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Scotland. Jones worked for the American High School Theatre Festival at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for nine years.  At Actors, Jones has taught playwriting, acted as Literary Manager of the New Voices Young Playwrights Contest, and headed the theatre’s lobby enrichment initiative.  Jones has developed work with the Professional Training Company and directed in the New Voices Young Playwrights Festival.  Jones’s plays, Dress Up, TMI: a sex-ed puppet show, and her adaptation of Hansel and Gretel have been produced locally. Jones has an MFA in Playwriting from Spalding University; she graduated cum laude from Smith College with a BA in Theatre.
