The National Ten-Minute Play contest

Thank you for your interest in sharing your new work with Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Effective August 2017, the National Ten-Minute Play Contest has been discontinued, and we are no longer accepting ten-minute play submissions.

Begun in 1989, the National Ten-Minute Play Contest resulted in the production and publication of hundreds of new plays, and Actors Theatre’s pioneering support of the form paved the way for the ten-minute play to become a widespread phenomenon in the American theatre. Nearly three decades after we helped popularize these short works—with other ten-minute play contests, evenings and festivals now well-established across the country—we have decided to close this chapter in our history, and turn a new page. This will allow us to focus on pursuing other exciting new play initiatives for the Humana Festival and our Professional Training Company.

We remain committed to the discovery of playwrights and promising new work. If you’ve written an unproduced full-length play, we’d love to hear from you! If you don’t have an agent who can submit your play, you’re welcome to mail us a 10-page work sample to introduce your writing, which will be carefully reviewed by our Literary Staff. To learn about how to send a work sample, please click the button below and read our submission policy.

Actors Theatre of Louisville is grateful to all of the playwrights who’ve participated in the National Ten-Minute Play Contest over the years, and we look forward to new adventures with new work.
