New Play Projects are a series of three plays written for and produced by the Professional Training Company. All 39 company members work with commissioned playwrights — Alexis Scheer, Jane B. Jones and Lisa Sanaye Dring — to workshop and mount each fully produced, world-premiere production.
All three performances will be performed January 17 and 18.
Audience Advisory: Strong language, death, discussion of sexual abuse and discussion and depiction of sexual assault. Environmental elements include sudden, loud noises, lights flicking and flashing and actors in the audience space and aisles.
We are proud to announce this year's plays:
The Sensational
by Alexis Scheer
directed by Cara Hinh
FRIDAY, JAN. 17 AT 6 P.M.
SATURDAY, JAN. 18 AT 5 P.M.
Miami, Florida. Hillsong Prep High School. Lunchtime in the school newspaper classroom. The seniors who make up the newspaper team are ravenous—literally and figuratively. A funny, hard-hitting, and provocative story on what happens when the newsroom is what’s breaking.
Louisville // Kentucky // USA
by Lisa Sanaye Dring
directed by Christine Albright-Tufts
FRIDAY, JAN. 17 AT 6 P.M.
SATURDAY, JAN. 18 AT 5 P.M.
In the not-so-distant future, a politically polarized America splits into two nations. Part of the new border carves around Louisville, separating the blue city from an otherwise red Kentucky. Two neighboring families find themselves on either side of this divide, unearthing old and new questions of boundaries, ownership, and what it means to call a place home.
Tell the Truth
by Jane B. Jones
directed by Julia Rufo
FRIDAY, JAN. 17 AT 6 P.M.
SATURDAY, JAN. 18 AT 5 P.M.
When Alex and Cassie arrive at Warrenton High, the last thing they expect to find is a school full of liars. Gossip and rumors run rampant, and every senior must compete in the county’s annual Liars Contest. But how can you tell what’s true—and what isn’t—when you don’t know who you are?
