Louisville, KY — May 23, 2024 — Actors Theatre of Louisville, in collaboration with Drag Daddy Productions, is thrilled to announce the world premiere of Won't you be my May-bor? in the intimate Victor Jory Theater. Conceived by the creative minds of Andrew Newton Schaftlein and Eric Sharp, and featuring the extraordinary talents of drag performer May O'Nays, this production is set to deliver a mesmerizing experience for theatergoers young and old.
May O'Nays, renowned for her theatrical prowess and community involvement, brings her unique expertise to the stage as both a celebrated drag queen and an adept escape room master. However, she encounters a challenge unlike any other—a mysterious room that proves elusive to her skills.
Drawing from the timeless wisdom of Fred Rogers, this interactive adventure invites participants to cultivate patience, mindfulness, and attentive listening as they join May O'Nays in unraveling the enigmatic Mister Rogers room.
"Won't you be my May-bor? is a reminder of our strength when we come together," says Director Emily Tarquin. "It is beautifully crafted by writers Andrew Newton Schaftlein and Eric Sharp, dynamically performed by May O'Nays, and thoughtfully produced by Drag Daddy Productions. It is a gift to my soul to have the opportunitity to tell this story in these times, alongside this incredible team of people, inside of the world built by Fred Rogers. We must dream what is possible and work on building it together."
